Car won't start?

Battery problems are the most common reasons people need roadside assistance.

It’s a terrible feeling – jump in the car, turn the key, and the motor groans and fails to start the engine. Not a great start to your drive… Unfortunately, battery problems are the most common reasons people need roadside assistance.

The truth is that your car’s battery can fail for many reasons, including cold weather, lights left on, or lack of use. Regardless of the cause, having a flat or dead battery can delay your travels, derail your plans and leave you stranded.

If the car battery is merely flat it may be possible for you to jump-start a vehicle yourself using jump leads or a booster pack. However, it is extremely important to follow the correct jump start procedure and to take  the appropriate safety precautions.

Remember, jump-starting a car wrong may severely damage to your  car’s internal electronics and even cause the battery to explode. If you’re not 100% confident that you know what you’re doing, give us a  call 24/7 and we’ll be happy to help .

Our mobile mechanics are extremely experienced and trained to use the latest car jump-start technology our service vehicles are fitted with. Don’t risk injury or a damaged car if you don’t have to. Instead let us quickly and  safely test your battery, jump start your car, or replace your battery if  needed.

How to jump start your car:

  1. First, ensure all electrical systems in your car (the one with the flat  battery) and devices in the vehicle are turned off.

  2. Park the second vehicle as close to your car as possible (without them touching) and ensure the jump leads comfortable ready from one  battery to the other.

  3. Make sure both vehicle engines are turned off, open their bonnets,  and remove the ignition keys.

  4. Attach one end of the jump lead to the positive terminal on the flat  battery. The positive terminal will usually have a (+) symbol on it.

  5. Next attach the other end of the same jump lead to the positive  terminal on the fully charged battery on the second vehicle.

  6. Now attach one end of the other jump lead to the negative (-) terminal  of the fully charged battery on the second vehicle.

  7. Next attach the other end of the same jump lead to a good earth point  on your car as far away from the battery as possible – a solid metal  part of the engine is usually best.

  8. Start the engine of the second vehicle.

  9. Now try to start your car with the flat battery. If it does not start after a  few tries, it might be a more serious issue than a flat battery.

  10. If your car does start, leave both vehicles running for about five  minutes.
